Room 2 Plan May 25th-29th

Hello Everybody

I hope you are all keeping well. Here is the learning plan for this coming week (May 25th– 29th) and there are some more activities that you can do at home.

English
Reading:
Read or watch the story of The Great Kapok Tree https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1Teb-_jTyI

Continue to read whatever school readers you brought home with you and other books you have at home. Your child can then tell the story in order of events. E.g.; first, then, next. Remind your child that every story has a beginning, middle and end.

Here is a link to a story your child can practice reading by themselves. Help them to read the key words and then model how to read it. Remind you child to put their finger under each word as they go. They are Nip and Chip and Gran’s Van https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/interactives/29256.htmlYou have to sign up in oxfordowl to use this resource.

Continue to revise all sounds. This week we will be moving on with phonics and looking at two letter sounds that sound the same. We will be learning about ee/ea

ee/ea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrbcmnLXj7M and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PJGqbCeRU4 Watch this video and discuss the words with your child. Write down some ee and ea words. Have a box with ee and ea on it and your child can sort them into the correct sound. Here is a link to a Powerpoint you can watch. https://en.islcollective.com/english-esl-powerpoints/material-type/pronunciation-activities/reading-rules-practise-ea-ee/104650 Here are some worksheets you can complete. One for each day. You can write it on a page if you cannot print it.

Tricky Words back to number 5 me, we, be, was, to. One word per day and build up.
Word Box 13 and continue one new word per day. These words are roof, swam, tooth, wool, strong. You received Wordlist 13 in last week’s email.

This is a link you can use to revise tricky words. https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t-l-561-tricky-words-on-multicoloured-flowers-1.

You can use this to play games to help with tricky Words.

Game 1: hide the words around the house and when your child finds them, they say what it is if they can. Start with the easier ones.

Game 2: Here is a link to a Bingo game you can play. https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/T-L-030-Phase-4-tricky-word-bingo. You call out the words and your child covers them if they have it

Game 3: You need two sets of Tricky Words and your child can match them. If you can’t print them, perhaps you could write out the words with your child. If you like I can scan another copy to you. Let me know via email. You can also ask your child, ‘can you spot….’ Whatever the word is.

Word Families: CVC Words. These are the word families or simple three letter words. Use starfall.com to work on these with your child. If you have letters at home, they can build these words or else write them on a whiteboard. Here is a link to https://www.starfall.com/h/word-machines/

Watch this video on ‘ot’ word family.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2ZghKzfJE0&t=96s

Watch this video on ‘og’ word family. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKJ3BrF1A1Y

Writing
Your child can tell you their news to put in their news copy. This can be something you did at home or saw while out and about. You write the sentence on a whiteboard or a piece of card and then your child can copy it independently. Remind them to use two frogging legs and a lily pad to steady their pencil and ensue correct letter formation. They can then draw their picture above. If anybody would like to send me a picture of their work via my email, I can correct and give feedback to your child.

You can use storybooks where your child can pick their favourite page and write a simple sentence based on it. Here is another link to pictures and sentences. If you print them they can cut them in half, turn them upside down and mix them up. You can play pairs with them. https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t-t-777-phase-2-pictures-and-captions-matching-cards-square-cards

They can also continue with their handwriting book, one page per day.

There are good letter formation videos on https://www.doorwayonline.org.uk/activities/letterformation/ or you can use https://www.youtube.com/results?sp=mAEB&search_query=singing+walrus+letters

Gaeilge
You can go to www.edco.ie/bua where there’s a trial. This is the direct link, hope it works. Login is trial and password is trial. This week we will be revising An Teilifís Ceacht 6-7 You can play these lessons for your child and they can learn the words, phrases and songs.  If you click on the link above it will download for you.

Maths
Continue to revise numbers 1-10 and keep going with the mini maths book.

SESE

The Great Kapok Tree Activities:

Ask your child if they can remember the animals in The Great Kapok Tree story from English above. Your child can draw the animals that appeared in the story and colour them in.

Discuss the threat to the rainforests with your child. What is happening to the rainforest? The trees are being cut down. Do the animals live in the trees? Yes they do. What will happen to the animals if the trees go? They will lose their homes.

Your child can then make a poster showing their favourite rainforest animal with a simple slogan such Stop cutting down trees or Mind our animals. If you can write the slogan, your child can copy it onto their poster.

Music:

Listen to Colours of the wind from Pocahontas here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpLnqOvGuMs This is also on spotify.
Continue with nursery rhymes and songs your child enjoys singing. If you have Spotify or Alexa at home these can help.

If you look up the Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra, there are lots of games to play with instruments.

Art

STEAM Activity: Build a Kapok Tree based on this week’s story. You can use toilet roles for the trunk and makes some paper leaves for the leaves. You could collect foliage from outside and stick it on your tree. You could paint some lollipop sticks (if you have them) green and stick them on. Draw some of the animals in the story to put in the tree.

If anybody wants to send me a photo of your work via email, I would love to see them.
