Work for Room 2 April 27th

Hello Everybody

I hope you are all keeping well and adjusting to the new normal. Here is the learning plan for this coming week (April 27th – May 1st) and there are some more activities that you can do at home.

English
Reading:
Read the story the very hungry Caterpillar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75NQK-Sm1YY&t=49s for your child. Your child can draw the different food she ate and how many of them. Your child can write the numbers beside them.  They can then put the pictures in order of appearance. Remind your child to say First, then, next and ends with to help them to sequence the story. This can be done over a few days at home. Alternatively, you can do this activity based on the story https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t-t-7268-the-very-hungry-caterpillar-sorting-activity

Continue to read whatever school readers you brought home with you and other books you have at home. Here is a link to some pictures. Your child has to look at the pictures and tell the story. https://cdn.oxfordowl.co.uk/2014/10/20/10/56/59/939/ort_ttales_level1plus_sm.pdf (This link is safe to open)

Revise sounds s,a,t,i,p in sounds notebook. Here is a link to https://vimeo.com/106231366 you can skip to the appropriate songs and listen on this link. Here is a link to phonics booklets. https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/au-t-l-581-letters-and-sounds-s-a-t-p-activity-booklet
Tricky Words continue with the list words which are were, because, want, saw, put. One word per day and build up.
Revise Wordlist 11 into notebook. Stick Word List 12 into the notebook and continue one new word per day wet, zip, swim, buzz, ring.

This is a link you can use to revise tricky words. https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t-l-561-tricky-words-on-multicoloured-flowers-1.

You can use this to play games to help with tricky Words.

Game 1: hide the words around the house and when your child finds them, they say what it is if they can. Start with the easier ones.

Game 2: Here is a link to a Bingo game you can play. https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/T-L-030-Phase-4-tricky-word-bingo. You call out the words and your child covers them if they have it

Game 3: You need two sets of Tricky Words and your child can match them. If you can’t print them, perhaps you could write out the words with your child. If you like I can scan another copy to you. Let me know via email. You can also ask your child, ‘can you spot….’ Whatever the word is.

Word Families: CVC Words. These are the word families or simple three letter words. Use starfall.com to work on these with your child. If you have letters at home, they can build these words or else write them on a whiteboard. Here is a link to https://www.starfall.com/h/word-machines/Here are some worksheets you can use

Writing
Your child can tell you their news to put in their news copy. This can be something you did at home or saw while out and about. You write the sentence on a whiteboard or a piece of card and then your child can copy it independently. Remind them to use two frogging legs and a lily pad to steady their pencil and ensue correct letter formation. They can then draw their picture above. If anybody would like to send me a picture of their work via my email, I can correct and give feedback to your child.

Please find link below to some pictures that can be used to write a simple sentence. E.g.; the cat is in the box. Give your child a few minutes to look at the picture and decide what words they may need for their sentence. Help your child to write these down and then construct a simple sentence about their picture. This can be done in the news copy. Alternatively, you can use storybooks where your child can pick their favourite page and write a simple sentence based on it. Here is a link to some pictures you can use. https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/simple-sentence-writing-prompt-pictures-activity-to-support-teaching-on-the-very-hungry-caterpillar-activity-t-l-527690 You can keep it very simple. For example the little egg… and then finish the sentence..is on the leaf.

They can also continue with their handwriting book, one page per day.

There are good letter formation videos on https://www.doorwayonline.org.uk/activities/letterformation/ or you can use https://www.youtube.com/results?sp=mAEB&search_query=singing+walrus+letters

Gaeilge
You can go to www.edco.ie/bua where there’s a trial. This is the direct link, hope it works. Login is trial and password is trial. This week we will be looking at Sa Bhaile Ceacht 6-10. You can play these lessons for your child and they can learn the words, phrases and songs.  If you click on the link above it will download for you.

Maths
Continue to revise numbers 1-10 and keep going with the mini maths book.
Topic is partitioning:

Activity 1: your child can count out 5 cubes and put them together. They then split it into two and write down their sum and the answer. Eg; 3+2=5

Activity 2:to help them think of all the ways they can make 5 https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/part-whole-number-bonds-to-5-activity-t-n-7759
