This year, as part of Book Week, we undertook a whole school project. Every class, from Junior Infants to 6th, read the same book. We all read "After The Fall", by Dan Santat. It's basically the story of what happened to Humpty Dumpty after he fell, but when you read it you discover it's about so much more. Like the blurb at the back of the book says, "Life is what happens when you get back up".
It is such a rich book, with beautiful illustrations, and so much to hold the attention of every reader. And, as the week went on, each class interacted with it in a different way. Some sequenced the story, some drew the character, there were dramatic readings, letters to the author, and alternative endings from the page "one step at a time".
Finally, for STEM, we took an idea from the book and each child in the school made a paper plane, and we flew them to see how far they would go!
It was a great experience for the whole school, and we loved seeing how each class has interacted with the story.
